This tutorial explains how to set mandatory prerequisites for a Module, ensuring only Learners who complete specific modules can advance.
A Module is completed when a learner has viewed each element and passed all the Assessments within it.
This feature is useful for:
- creating structured learning paths, ensuring Modules are completed in a specific order
- gamifying lessons by setting challenges between Modules, encouraging learners to reach the final one first.
- setting initial assessments to restrict access to advanced Modules, allowing only Learners with proper preparation to proceed.
To set prerequisites, you can follow these steps:
-
First, select the Module you want to restrict access to, then open its settings by clicking the ፧ button:
-
From the sidebar, click Add Prerequisites. From the dropdown menu select the Modules you want to set as requirements to access this Module. You can choose more than one Module at once:
Conversely, you cannot set the following requirements to access a Module:
- An Open Module
- A Module in drafts
- A Test or Exercise directly from the Assessment section. However, you can include Assessment in a Module set as prerequisites. Learners will have to pass these Assessments to fulfill the prerequisites -
You can add or remove requirements to the Module at any time. To remove requirements, click the x button next to the Module title:
-
From the Module preview, you can see if the Module has requirements:
-
The prerequisite icon will be highlighted, while the counter indicates how many Modules have been set as prerequisites:
-
A Module with prerequisites that haven’t been met yet will look locked from the Learners’ perspective:
A widget at the bottom of the page will explain which Modules are to view to fulfill the requirements.
