How to issue an NFT

Through WeSchool Space Admins can issue certifications in the form of NFTs, using the Ethereum, Polygon, Optimism and Arbitrum chains

When you issue an NFT, an Open Badge is automatically generated as well.

What is an NFT?
An NFT (Non-Fungible Token) is a unique digital token that represents the ownership of a digital object, in this case, an Open Badge. NFTs are non-fungible and non-interchangeable; the blockchain on which they are registered ensures security and transparency and allows for the verification of the ownership and authenticity of the NFTs.

As an Admin of a Space, you can emit an unlimited number of NFTs, however, that transaction costs are borne by the issuer of the NFTs and may vary depending on the chain.

NFT issuance is done through Metamask, which allows you to manage cryptocurrencies and interact on the blockchain. Read here how to connect the Metamask Wallet to your account.

To issue an NFT you can follow these steps:

If you issue NFTs through mobile devices, make sure you install the Metamask app (available for iOS or Android). Then open WeSchool from your browser within the MetaMask app and carry out the operations described above.

When users are awarded an NFT, they will receive a notification via email and on the platform. The NFT will also be visible on their WeSchool profile. Read more about how managing your certifications.

An Admin of a Space can keep track of the users and the NFTs they have received from the Badges section of the Dashboard.
Click on the number of Users to see the list of users to whom you have assigned the NFTs.
You can  hover over the NFT icon to:

  • view the Open Badge assigned to a specific user online. Here you can read  all the information contained in the Badge (e.g. descriptions, criteria, the issuing date, and - if set - the expiration date)
  • view the certification in the form of an NFT online
  • view the transaction details that certify the authenticity of the NFT
  • download the Badge in PDF format
